KANDIAFA FALA

Born from the heritage of Malian storytellers, Kandiafa’s roots lie in blues, folk and jazz. In their own words, "Kandiafa stops time and wars. Where it passes, love and joy grow like fruits on the tree". Mali Country is the debut album from Kandiafa, which uses similar traditional instruments synonymous with fellow Malian band Tinariwen. 'Fala' is a mid-album track which is woven with a thick tapestry. The fiddles are dramatic and expressive, and there’s a ghostly strung instrument that sounds like a mixture between a thumb piano and guitar. Deep within the soul of the song is an ancient blues rhythm, which seems to carries a timeless spirit. Female and male vocals sparingly feature on this track, in passionate harmony. -Ellie Rose-Davies
